VetsBuild is a signature United Way of Long Island initiative dedicated to the support of Veterans and their families in our community at no charge to the Veteran. One out of every five Veterans on Long Island struggles to find a career path that will lead to financial independence. VetsBuild represents United Way of Long Island’s commitment to addressing this problem by changing lives and building futures for our local heroes.

The VetsBuild five-star approach includes five service points that work together to build a solid foundation upon which a stable and healthy life can be built:

  • Emergency Financial Assistance such as housing assistance, utility
payments, transportation, vehicle repair, emergency home repairs and accessibility modifications for Veterans with physical disabilities.
  • Training at United Way’s E3 SmartBuild Training Center, a state-of-the art facility equipped with the latest technology and equipment to provide VetsBuild students with hands-on training in Green construction and facility maintenance. Veterans may also qualify for advanced training scholarships at local colleges and technical schools, including assistance to start their own business.
  • Employment linkages through United Way’s Business, Labor, &
Employment Council, the initiative helps Veterans return to the workforce by offering job counseling and placement assistance.
  • Case Management to assist military personnel and their families secure eligible services.

Together with our supporters, United Way of Long Island’s VetsBuild program is helping our local heroes re-write the next chapter of their journey when their service to our country comes to an end.
